India Wins 19 Medals at Tokyo 2020 Paralympics
India registered its largest ever medal haul at the Paralympic Games finishing with five gold, eight silver and six bronze medals in Tokyo.
The Tokyo Paralympics 2020 finally came to an end on 5th September 2021. The event was held with much fan-fare, as the stadium turned into a party atmosphere. 19 year old Shooter Avani Lekhara who is the first Indian woman to win a gold medal at the Paralympics was India’s flag bearer during the ceremony. This is the first time in History that India won a total of 19 medals at the Paralympics. In 2016 Paralympics India won only 4 medals. This year was India’s best performance ever. India won 5 gold medals, 8 silver medals and 6 bronze medals. India shone in athletics as well, with four medals in high jump, three in javelin throw and one in discus throw. India also had a good outing in badminton, which was being played at the Paralympics for the first time this year. This year has been amazing for all Indian athletes. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, India gave its best performance and secured 7 medals and at the Paralympics athletes secured 19 medals. We hope the government supports such talented athletes so that we can win more medals in the future.
