Under the fearless leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur, India’s women’s cricket team lifted their first-ever ICC Women’s World Cup trophy after defeating South Africa by 52 runs in a thrilling final at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai.

The journey to the title was nothing short of inspirational. After losing three matches in the league stage, India made a stunning comeback, defeating Australia in a record chase during the semi-final.

In the final, young opener Shafali Verma shone brightly, scoring 87 runs and taking two wickets, earning the Player of the Match award. Deepti Sharma contributed with a crucial 58 runs and took 5 wickets for 39 runs, becoming the Player of the Tournament for her all-round brilliance.

India posted 298/7, and though South Africa fought bravely with captain Laura Wolvaardt’s 101, they were bowled out for 246. Coach Amol Muzumdar’s calm leadership and tactical planning were key to India’s success.

After the victory, emotions ran high as Smriti Mandhana and her teammates celebrated the historic win. Harmanpreet Kaur joined Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni as World Cup-winning Indian captains.

The ICC announced a record USD 13.88 million prize pool, with India taking home USD 4.48 million (?39.5 crore). The BCCI also rewarded the team with a ?51 crore bonus, marking a proud and unforgettable moment in Indian sports history.
