India Accidentally Fired Missile Into Pakistan
India accidentally fired a missile which landed in Pakistan. However no one was hurt or killed.
One country fired a missile at another country last week. They were not at war, and it did not start one. On 10th March 2022, India announced that a missile was fired accidentally from the Indian side into an area in Pakistan on 9th March. The Ministry of Defence said in a statement that on 9 March 2022, while the routine maintenance of the missile was going on there was a technical problem. Because of that the missile got accidentally fired. The Government of India has ordered a high-level enquiry into the incidence. The missile landed in an area of Pakistan. The ministry While the incident is deeply regrettable, it is also a relief that there has been no loss of life due to the accident. According to Pakistan, the missile flew more than 100 km. There was no warhead on the missile so it did not detonate.
Pakistani military spokesperson Major-General Babar Iftikhar said that a "high-speed flying object" crashed near the city of Mian Channu, Pakistan and that it originated from the Indian city of Sirsa, in Haryana state.
But Pakistan's foreign office said it had summoned India's officer Islamabad and said that was an unprovoked violation of its airspace. Pakistan's Foreign Office on 12th March said it was not satisfied with India's "simplistic explanation" on the "accidental firing" of a missile. "Pakistan has proposed a joint probe into the incident to establish facts since the missile had landed into Pakistani territory as it could have endangered passenger flights and civilian lives.” Pakistan warned India "to be mindful of the unpleasant consequences of such negligence and take effective measures to avoid the recurrence of such violations in future". Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday said Pakistan could have responded to India after its missile landed in his country but it observed restraint.
“The Pakistani side has shown great maturity,” said Sushant Singh, a senior staff at the New Delhi-based Center for Policy Research. “We have been lucky this time. We should not make the mistake again thinking we will be lucky every time.”
