Boris Johnson stepped down as Britain’s Prime Minister on Thursday 7th July, after a number of people from his own party demanded his resignation, meanwhile he also had to quit the post of the Conservative Party leader. More than 50 Other ministers have quit the UK government since Tuesday 5th July. But what has led Boris Johnson to resign from his position as the prime minister of UK. A report which was released in May 2022 revealed that 16 gatherings were held at Johnson’s home and office and other government offices between May 2020 and April 2021. This was the time when most of the country was under strict lockdown.The report said that during these meetings held at Johnson’s house and office several of his workers were involved in excessive drinking and consumption of alcohol when the common people in the country were forced to stay inside their houses, and almost no one was unable to see their family & friends. However, Johnson issued an apology and said he takes “full responsibility” for everything that happened. But the report which surfaced caused public anger, with several politicians and ministers asking Boris Johnson to resign.
With regards to this case, In June, 54 MPs of his party submitted letters to Graham Brad who is the chair person of the UK General committe saying that they've lost confidence in their leader. Because of this a No Confidene Movement took place on June 6, for MP’s to vote against or in the favour of Boris Johnson. However, Johnson won the vote of no confidence, with 148 out of total 211 Votes in his favour, But approximately 41% of MP’s Voted against him which had shaken his hold on the power. This controversy brought another scandal against Johnson that one of his party worker Chris Pincher who was appointed to a senior position despite having claims of sexual misconduct against him in 2019. On 1st July, the UK government claimed that Johnson was unaware of the allegations against Pincher. But a spokesperson later revealed that it was not true and the PM did know about the accusations against Chris Pincher .
With so much opposition from own party workers, Boris Johnson was forced to resign from his position as the Prime Minister of the UK as well as a leader of the Conservative Party.However In between all this, the next Prime Minister of Uk can be Rishi Sunak who is an Indian Origin politician in the UK. Sunak made history in February 2020 when he was appointed as the first Chancellor of Indian heritage, and has strong chances of becoming the Prime Minister of UK. If you dont already know, He is married to Akshata Murty, the daughter of Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy, and they have two young daughters Krishna and Anoushka. Infosys is one of the biggest IT giants in India.
