Indian Railway Tests 3.5 Km Long Train With 6 Engines
The Indian Railways has conducted a test run of the 3.5-km-long goods train with 6 engines and 295 coaches which has broken all the records.
The Indian Railways is the 4th largest railway network in the world. Indian Railways currently has around 13,452 Passenger trains which carry approximately 24 million passengers daily and 9,141 goods trains which carry around 203.88 million tonnes of goods every day.
Now after you know the significance of the Indian Railways let us tell you that recently, The Indian Railways has conducted a test run of the 3.5-km-long goods train. This extremely long goods train has been named Super Vasuki by the Railways. This train is considered to be the longest train in the world with a total of 295 loaded coaches carrying over 27,000 tonnes of coal between Korba in Chhattisgarh and Rajnandgaon in Chhattisgarh on 15th August, as a part of the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' celebrations. Shockingly, this is three times the capacity of existing railway rakes which is 90 coaches with 100 tonnes in each which carries about 9,000 tonnes of coal in one journey. The train was formed by merging five rakes of goods trains as one unit. Also, the train was attached with a total of 6 engines.
The train left Korba at around 1:50 in the afternoon and took 11.20 hours to cover the distance of 267 km after it reached Rajnandgaon station at around 1:10 midnight. This is so far the longest and heaviest good train ever run by the Railways and that the train takes about four minutes to cross a station. According to the official reports, The Railways plans to use this arrangement of long goods trains more frequently, especially to transport coal in peak demand season to prevent fuel shortages of power stations,
Earlier this year, coal shortages had pushed the country into a severe power crisis, this will surely help India to transport coal more frequently and conveniently.
