The IPL 2020 started on 19th September 2020 in the UAE after getting delayed for 6 months due to the COVID-19. The matches will be held in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. But this time the IPL matches will not be played in the same way as before. You all know that on the first day of the IPL is the opening ceremony. On the first day celebrities perform and there is a big programme. Last year the opening ceremony was cancelled because of the Pulwama attacks. IPL officials donate the fund to the families of CRPF personnel, who lost their lives in the Pulwama terror attack. This year too there was no opening ceremony because of the COVID outbreak. For the first time there will be no fans and no cheerleaders in the stadium.
However, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said they may allow fans in the stadium at 30% capacity of the stadium after doing proper tests. The first IPL match was played between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings in Abu Dhabi. All rounder Dwayne Bravo was not able to play the match because of a knee injury. Chennai won the match by scoring 166/5 wickets.
The second match was held between Delhi Capitals and Kings XI Punjab. Both teams ended up scoring equal runs of 157/8. Superover was held to break the tie. In the Super Over DC off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took two wickets. But in the last bowl he landed awkwardly on his left arm with his shoulder taking the jerk. A shoulder dislocation could rule Ashwin out of the tournament. However DC beat Kings XI Punjab and won the Super Over.
During the matches players have to follow strict rules. After the matches earlier players would be interviewed but this time they stand alone in front of the camera and answer questions by listening to an earpiece. Earlier people would enjoy watching matches in cafes, bars and host pirates in their house. But due to the COVID outbreak these are not possible. But people have come up with creative ways by hosting zoom parties. People wore the IPL jerseys and dressed up in different attires to watch the match.
