IPL Final Shifts from Tamil Nadu to Hyderabad
The venue for the IPL, Finale shifts from Chennai to Hyderabad, over locked stands in the stadium.
The Indian Premier League, or IPL, in short, is held in the country every year. It receives a lot of fandom. This year, the IPL finals, was supposed to be held in Chennai, Tamil Nadu on the 12th of May. However, this match was later shifted to Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, in Hyderabad, by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, on 22nd April. This shift came after the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) failed to get permission from the government to open the three closed stands.
Vinod Rai, who is the Chief of the Committee of Administrators said that they had to take this decision to shift the match since Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) reported that they were unable to get the necessary permissions to open the three stands I,J and K of the M. A. Chidambaram stadium, Chennai. He also added that this closure would result in loss of the “gate pass” fee, and hence, the venue was shifted.
These stands of the M. A. Chidambaram stadium in Chennai, have remained shut since 2012, with the exception of one international match between India and Pakistan. Elections will be held in Hyderabad on the 6th, 8th and 10th of May, and hence, only the IPL finals have been kept in Hyderabad, while the rest of the Eliminators and Qualifiers’ venue remains the same. For the first time, a three team, women’s IPL will be held from 6th to 10th May, in Jaipur.
