IPL Players Test Positive for COVID-19
Many cricketers tested positive for COVID-19 during IPL 2021 season.
Anrich Nortje & Kagiso Rabada are bowlers part of the Delhi Capitals team. They are from South Africa. After playing the second ODI match between South Africa & Pakistan, the two players took a flight and landed in Mumbai on 6th April. They were supposed to be quarantined till 13th April after which they could play for Delhi Capitals against Rajasthan Royals in Mumbai. However, Anrich Nortje is still quarantined because his COVID test report has not arrived. Officials say this is because of the restrictions imposed in Maharashtra which has affected the RT-PCR tests. Kagiso Rabada tested negative and was allowed to resume training but did not take part in the match.
This is a serious problem for Delhi Capitals. Rabada who had taken the highest number of wickets in the 2020 IPL is not playing and Anrich Nortje who was the 4th highest wicket scorer in IPL 2020 is also not playing. This may have a serious effect on the DC performance. In another news, Delhi Capital’s Axar Patel tested positive for COVID-19 and is in isolation. Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Devdutt Padikkal had also tested positive but he recovered in time to play against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Because of the recent COVID-19 spike in India, the BCCI has decided to test everyone in the IPL on a daily basis instead of every third day, as was the case last year.
