IPL: Rohit Sharma & MS Dhoni Fined Rs. 12 Lakh
Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has been fined Rs 12 lakh for slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match against Delhi Capitals.
In cricket, an f is the average number of overs bowled per hour by the bowling team. In each format of cricket the average over rate is different. In T20Is and IPL bowling sides are expected to bowl the 20 overs in 1 hour 25 minutes. In IPL the over-rate is calculated at the end of the Match by the Umpires and if they find the over rate was slow, they report the matter to the Match Referee. The Match Referee then confirms that the Minimum Over Rate has not been achieved by the fielding side and will issue a fine to the Captain of that team under IPL Code of Conduct. As per the rules of IPL, On the first instance during a season, the captain is fined Rs 12 lakh for slow over-rate. On the second instance during the season, the fine is doubled (Rs 24 lakh) for the captain and every other member of playing XI is fined 25 percent of the match fee or Rs 6 lakh. For the third offence in the season, a fine of Rs 30 lakh is imposed on the captain and he is also given a one-match ban, while rest of the members of the playing XI are charged with a fine of Rs 12 lakh or 50 per cent of match fee.

After the match Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma was fined Rs. 12 Lakh for slow over rate. The IPL released a statement saying that it was Mumbai Indians first offence of the season. So under the IPL’s rule, skipper Rohit Sharma was fined Rs 12 lakh. Similarly, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni has been fined Rs 12 lakh for a slow over-rate against Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) clash on 10th April.
