ISRO Looks For Names to Etch on the Moon
If Chandrayaan-2 is successful, top Officials at ISRO and the government are in talks about the name the location once the Lander lands on the moon.
Right now ISRO’s scientists and engineers are carefully and delicately navigating the Chandrayaan-2 to the moon. They are doing this so that the Lander can land on the moon and make history. Almost 10 years ago, on November 14, 2008, the Chandrayaan-1 Moon Impact Probe (MIP) crash landed on the moon. The Place where it landed was called Jawahar Point as it landed on Children’s Day. The crash was planned by ISRO and once it crashed on the moon’s surface it discovered the presence of water on the moon.
Now if Chandrayaan-2 is successful, Top Officials at ISRO and the government are thinking what should they name the location once the Lander lands on the moon. ISRO Chairman K Sivan said that since the name of the Lander is Vikram, they may name the location “Vikram”. However he said that there is still time for that and they have not decided on anything yet and are still looking for names. The announcement of the name will be made by PM Narendra Modi. The important thing is to land on the moon first.
ISRO will keep the name a secret just in case the mission is unsuccessful but scientists are very confident that they will land on the moon. Sivan said ISRO had completed all preparations for the landing. The Landing will take 15 minutes and that will be "the 15 minutes of terror".
