Italy Beats England in Euro 2020 Finals
Italy beat England in Euro 2020 Finals on 11th July in a penalty shoot out. While Argentina won the Copa America after 28 years.
The EURO 2020 Finals were held in the Wembley Stadium in London last night. The final match was between Italy & England. 60,000 were allowed in the stadium but the people gathered outside the stadium was way more than 60,000. Before the match started, there was pandemonium outside the stadium. Organisers were forced to delay the fans' entrance for a short period of time in order to deal with the crowds. Both the teams played for 90 minutes and the match was tied. The score was 1-1. They played for another 30 minutes but still the score was 1-1. Since the game was tied, there was a penalty shoot-out. In a penalty shoot-out, each team takes turns shooting at goal from the penalty mark, with the goal defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. Each team has five shots which must be taken by different kickers; the team that makes more successful kicks is declared the victor.
In this round, England made 2 goals and Italy made 3 goals which is why they won the match. Everyone thought that England was sure to win. England has not won the Euro Cup since 1966. Italy winning the match came as a huge shock to people. Italy last won the Euro Cup back in 1968. Italy had reached the final in Euro 2000 and Euro 2012, as well, but had lost to France, and Spain, respectively. Another big football news is that the Copa America Final was held at the Maracana Stadium in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil on 11 July. The final was between Argentina and Brazil. After 28 years, Argentina won the Copa America. Argentina's Captain Lionel Messi qualified for the finals in 2007. 2015 & 2016 but he never won. This is his first time winning the Copa.
