Italy Considers Land-For-Kids Plan in Order to Boost Population
State may give Agricultural land for 20 years to parents who have a 3rd child between 2019 & 2021
The populist government of Italy plans to reward parents who have a third child by giving them a piece of land. This is in order to reverse the low birth rate present in the country.
This plan is included in the draft budget for next year and pieces of agricultural land will be given for 20 years to parents who have a third child between 2019 and 2021.
The Agriculture Minister said that Italians have few children and something needs to be done to change this. That is why the ministry wishes to contribute and is favouring the rural areas in particular, where people still have children.
Italy has the lowest birthrate in Europe. Last year about 4,64,000 births were registered which is the lowest till now.
This plan is also supported by ultra-Catholic families minister who said that this will be limited to married couples only.
Foreigners who are interested in this plan would need to be a resident in Italy for at least 10 years.
