Jack Ma Ordered to Appear in Indian Court
Founder of Alibaba, billionaire Jack Ma has been summoned by the Gurugram District Court over allegations of censoring content and spreading fake news.
Founder of Alibaba, billionaire Jack Ma has been summoned by the Gurugram District Court because he has been accused of censoring content and spreading fake news. Pushpendra Singh Parmar, a former employee at Alibaba’s UC Web company has said that UC Web would hide content that was not favourable to China on UC Browser and UC News. He said the employees were given a “Sensitive Word List”. The list contained words such as “India-China Border”, “Sino-India War”, etc. These words were both in Hindi and English. Any such Anti-China news with these keywords would be automatically blocked from appearing on UC Browser and UC News. When Parmar objected he was fired from the company. He has now filed a case against UC Web in Gurugram and seeks approx Rs 2 crore in damages. In connection with this petition, Judge Sonia Sheokand has ordered Jack Ma and other company representatives to appear in court on 29th July. The judge has also asked the company to give a written response on whether they censored content on behalf of any foreign government. UC Web and Jack Ma have both refused to comment. UC News & UC Browser were both part of the 59 Chinese Apps that were banned by India.
