Jawan Killed at LOC Due to Pakistani Firing
Pakistani forces have violated the ceasefire at the LOC, leading to the death of one and grievous injury of three other Jawans.
At the India-Pakistan border LOC, both the sides had agreed not to fight at the LOC. This is called a ceasefire. However, Pakistan has continued to violate the cease-fire. In the year 2019, there were a total of 3,168 ceasefire violations and 1,629 in 2018. Till 10th June 2020, there have been 2027 ceasefire violations by Pakistan at the LOC. On the night 13th June 2020, Pakistani forces again violated the ceasefire and started heavy firing and shelling near the line of control (LOC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Indian army strongly retaliated. In the incident, Sepoy Lungambui Abonmei and three other Army personnel were seriously injured and were immediately taken to hospital. However, Lungambui Abonmei died during treatment. A Defence Ministry spokesperson said, "Pakistan Army started firing at the LOC without any provocation. India responded strongly. Sadly motivated and sincere Sepoy Lungambui Abonmei died due to his injuries." In this month this is the third death due to Pakistani firing at the Poonch and Rajouri districts in J&K. Senior security officials say there is an increase in violations as Pakistan is firing to distract Indian forces so that terrorists can sneak into Indian border.
