MacBook Laptops Banned on Domestic Flights
The DCGA has banned 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops in check-in as well as carry on luggage in domestic flights in India.
The DGCA which stands for the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, has now banned the older model of the 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops in check-in as well as carry on luggage. These are mainly laptops that were sold between September 2015 and February 2017. On 20th June 2019, Apple asked people to return their 15-inch MacBook Pro units. People flying in India will not be allowed to carry the laptops as the batteries of the laptop may overheat and catch fire. The DGCA said that people must not carry the laptops in flights till Apple checks the battery and says they are safe or replaces the battery.
If you want to find out if your Laptop is affected, open Apple’s website https://support.apple.com/en-in/15-inch-macbook-pro-battery-recall Put your laptop’s serial number and you will know if your laptop has a problem or not. The DGCA will issue rules to Airlines. These rules will ensure that the rule is followed. People fear that all MacBook Pro laptops will not be allowed. There will be longer lines at the check-in counters. This is not the first time electronics have been banned on aircrafts. Earlier in 2016, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was banned because the battery could overheat and explode.
