Maharashtra Elections on 21st October

The elections for Maharashtra’s state legislative assembly commence on 21st October. Watch the video for further information.

After the Lok Sabha elections early this year now it is time for the state elections. Monday 21st October 2019 will be Election Day in Maharashtra. 21st has been declared a Public Holiday and the results will be announced on Thursday 24th October 2019.The Previous elections were in October 2014 where the BJP and Shiv Sena formed a majority government. And Devendra Fadnavis (BJP) became Chief Minister. There are 288 seats in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. There are two main alliances that are taking part in the elections this year. 

This year again, the BJP is in alliance with the Shiv Sena. Out of the 288 seats, the BJP is contesting for 164 seats and the Shiv Sena is contesting for 124 seats. CM Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is taking part in the elections again this year. Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray’s son [Box 04 Aditya Thackeray will take part in elections for the first time. 

The other alliance is Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, Prakash Ambedkar’s Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi and Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM are also taking part in the elections. A party needs to win 145 Seats so that they can form a government in Maharashtra. Last year the BJP-Sena alliance won a total of 185 seats and formed the government. 
 

This year many important political leaders have left their parties and joined the BJP & Shiv Sena. This will have an affect the result of the elections. The election is happening just months after a flood left many parts of Maharashtra devastated. The people are extremely unhappy with the government's management of the floods. People are even worried about the economy, financial problems and the less number of jobs available. So remember the elections are on the 21st of October, which is the coming Monday. Make sure you vote smartly.
