Maharashtra to Build 450ft Ambedkar Statue

The Maharashtra Government is building a bronze statue of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The statue will be built at the Chaitya Bhoomi which is the resting place of B. R. Ambedkar. Dr Ambedkar is the person who created the Indian Constitution.He is the one who stopped the social discrimination of Dalits and made sure they were treatede as equals in the society. This is why his statue will be known as the Statue of Equality.Originally the statue was going to be 350 feet tall. However, now the Maharashtra Cabinet has approved to increase the height by 100ft.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar announced that the the height of the statue will be 450 feet.Pawar said the construction of the statue will be completed in 2 years and there will be no shortage of funds. The statue also includes an auditorium, a library and a research centre. Originally to construct the 350 feet statue the cost was Rs 770 crore. Now since the Government has decided to increase the height the total cost has gone upto Rs 1070 crore.
The Statue will be built in Dadar, Mumbai. The Bombay High Court said that close to it there is a hospital called the Wadia Hospital. The High Court said that the BMC and the State government both give funds to the hospital to help poor patients. However, they haven't given funds to the hospital in a while and many patients are suffering. The High Court has said that the Government has money to build a statue but doesn’t have money to help poor patients who cannot afford fancy hospitals.The high Court asked the government if it is important to build a statue for the poor or is it important give them medical help.
