Man Arrested For Threatening to Rape Comedian
26 year old man from Vadodara was arrested for threatening to rape a standup commedian named Agrima Joshua.
On Sunday night a 26 year old man from Vadodara was arrested for uploading a video on Instagram. In the video he allegedly made a rape threat against a woman named Agrima Joshua, a standup comedian from Mumbai. Agrima Joshua, in her standup comedy video, made a joke about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. This video went viral on social media. Many people objected to the video and sent her dangerous messages and comments. Following the outrage, Agrima apologised for hurting the sentiments of people and deleted the video.
According to police, a few days ago Shubham Mishra from Atladra area of Vadodara uploaded a video on his Instagram profile in which he allegedly made rape threat against comedian Agrima Joshua. Mishra’s video went viral on social media. People were shocked to see a man threatening to rape a woman openly like that. Shubham Mishra has over 35,000 followers, the threat video uploaded by him on his Instagram handle went viral and was shared by popular stand-up comedians such as Kunal Kamra, few Bollywood actors who asked police action. The National Commission for Women (NCW) in New Delhi wrote to the chief of Gujarat Police asking to take action against the accused, after that the man was arrested. A suo motu case has been filed at the Cyber Crime police station.
Sandeep Chaudhary, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Zone 2, of Vadodara said that Vadodara Police received communication from Pune Police that comedian Agrima Joshua has also filed a complaint against Mishra. Vadodara Police in a release said that the Cyber Crime Cell got the video posted by Mishra on the Twitter account of Bollywood actress Swara Bhaskar. She had then shared the video to draw the attention of the police. The case is further being investigated by the Cyber Crime police station.
