Manipur's Imphal airport on high alert following UFO sighting; airspace shut, IAF deployed for investigation.
The capital city of Manipur, Imphal has been on alert after an unidentified flying object was spotted near Imphal’s airport runway on 19th November 2023. Reports say that the UFO was sighted by a Central Industrial Security Force – CISF officer and a private airline pilot at around 2:30 pm at Imphal’s Bir Tikendrajit International Airport. The UFO was visible with naked eyes and was moving towards the west direction. Members of Air Traffic Control – ATC and the people on the ground also reported seeing a drone-like object around the runway. Immediately after the sighting, the airport authorities closed the airspace and stopped all flights. Two flights were diverted from landing and three flights were delayed for takeoff. The airspace was handed over to the Indian Air Force (IAF) for investigation. Soon after receiving the information, the Indian Air Force sent Rafale fighter jets to search for the UFO. The IAF said “The aircraft carried out low-level flying over the suspected area to look for the UFO but it did not find anything there. After the first aircraft returned, one more Rafale fighter was sent for the search but the UFO was not seen around the area. The agencies concerned are trying to find out the details of the UFO as there are videos of the UFO over the Imphal airport.” After IAF gave the nod, the airspace was restored for commercial flight operations after three hours.
