Victor Hugo Sosa is the Mayor of San Pedro Huamelula, a fishing village, in Oaxaca, Mexico. On 30th June he got married. The wedding was carried out with much enthusiasm. The bride was dressed in a traditional white dress. Only twist was that the bride was not a human, it was a seven-year-old alligator. He even gave his unconventional bride a kiss, the reptile's mouth was tied shut. The video of the same has gone viral online.
The community has a tradition that dates back centuries and is intended so that the blessing of nature remains with the community forever. The Mayor married the alligator so that there are always plenty of fish in the ponds and rivers. The reptile, referred to as a little princess, is believed to be a deity representing mother earth. Her marriage to the mayor symbolizes the joining of humans with nature. When the video went viral, several internet users were super confused and the clip triggered several other reactions from social media users as well. Another user jokingly commented, "I hope the alligator is of the legal age to be married?"
