A couple in Madhya Pradesh has deployed four guards and six dogs to prevent the theft of two mango trees. You must be wondering why 2 mango trees require so much security. Mangoes are not that valuable.
Well the couple’s name is Rani and Sankalp Parihar. Parihar said he was on his way to Chennai to buy some saplings when he met a man on a train. The man offered him two mango saplings and told Parihar to take care of these plants like their babies. Parihar went back to MP and planted the saplings without knowing what variety of mangoes it will produce. When the tree grew and bore fruit, the couple were shocked to see that the mango was Red-Purple colour! He named the mangoes Damini, after the name of his mother.
The couple did some research and realised that these were the Japanese Miyazaki Mangoes. Parihar said even though the real name of the mangoes is Miyazaki, for him it would always be Damini. Miyazaki mangoes are said to be one of the most expensive breeds of mangoes in the world. They sold at ?2.70 lakh per kilogram in the international market. The mangoes are grown in Japan's Miyazaki city. The mango is over 350 grams in weight and has a 15% or higher sugar content. These mangoes are rich in antioxidants and are great for people that need help with tired eyes. They are grown during the peak harvest between April and August. According to the farmer couple, last year, some thieves broke into their orchards and stole the mangoes after it became locally known that they had started growing this rare fruit.
This is why they installed four guards and six dogs to prevent the theft of two mango trees. Sankalp's wife Rani said many people have shown interest in buying Miyazaki mangoes. She said a Mumbai-based jeweller is ready to pay ?21,000 for a mango. However, the couple has decided not to sell the mangoes to anyone yet, and instead they would grow them.
