Mumbai: Rise in Flu Cases Due To Weather, Pollution and No Masks
Due to bad air quality and rising temperature, cases of fever, cough, phlegm, body ache, shortness of breath etc. are increasing in Mumbai.
Mumbai has fallen ill. Due to bad air quality on one hand and rising temperature on the other hand, cases of fever, cough, phlegm, body ache, shortness of breath etc. are increasing in Mumbai. Lately, Mumbai’s air quality has been fluctuating so much that it has even beaten Delhi air quality on multiple occasions. The pollution levels, along with the sudden shift in temperatures are the reasons for people falling sick. Medical experts expressed concern and said that there has been an increase in cases of influenza (flu) in the city for the past few days. When the Corona epidemic was spreading in Mumbai, all the citizens used to wear face masks. Wearing a mask reduces a person's risk of getting infected. At the same time, since they also took the vaccine for the treatment of Corona, their resistance to Covid also remained strong. Today Mumbai has become safe from corona infection, so citizens do not wear masks. Not wearing a mask increases the chance of getting any infectious disease. In an important research paper published in the Journal of American Medical Association, there are such details, after the corona epidemic in many countries of the world, an increase in flu cases is being reported. However, there is very little awareness about flu vaccines in many countries including India.
A senior official of the Municipal Health department informed that cases of flu and respiratory syncytial virus are also more common in Mumbai. Moreover, the number of patients complaining of chest pain, shortness of breath and fever also increased in OPDs of government and private hospitals. The official added, “Children and adults both are being affected. Many patients are complaining of persistent dry cough for up to a few weeks. People with lung and heart conditions are presenting with more severe conditions, including pneumonia, that need hospitalization.” Medical experts have advised, “In light of the deteriorating situation, the susceptible population should avoid crowded places and wear masks. Seeking medical attention at the first sign of discomfort or any of the symptoms associated with the flu is recommended. Avoid indiscriminate use of antibiotics and self-medication to treat the flu.
