Ness Wadia Found With Drugs in Japan

The heir to the Wadia throne was found with drugs at Japan's airport. He received a two year imprisonment term, which was later suspended.

Ness Wadia is the eldest son of the Wadia Group Chairman Nusli Wadia. He is a co owner of the Kings XI Punjab cricket team, and could be the next heir to the 283 year old Wadia Group. He is a director of all the major units of the family group. Now, the Wadia Group takes part in businesses - ranging from biscuit giant - Britannia Industries, to budget airline - GoAir.

Its total market value is $13.3 billion. Ness Wadia visited Japan to visit a resort which was famous for skiing.

According to sources in Japan, customs officials at New Chitose were alerted to Mr Wadia by sniffer dogs. They searched him, and found that he had about 25g of cannabis resin in his pants pocket.

A court official in Sapporo said that Mr Wadia admitted that the drug was his. He said that it was for his personal use. Japan’s drug laws are strict and are being followed strictly especially now because of this year’s Rugby World Cup and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Mr Wadia spent some time in detention before he was convicted on March 20 and. The Sapporo District Court handed him a two-year prison sentence, which was suspended for five years. He has left Japan, and returned to India.

As per the rules of the IPL, any team official cannot involve himself in acts that might bring disrepute to the team, the IPL, the governing body or the game as a whole, both on and off the field. Under these rules, KXIP can be suspended.

As of now, the IPL commission is investigating the matter. Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals had too faced a two-year suspension from the IPL after it was revealed that their owners were involved in betting and corruption.
