The state government has declared a night curfew in cities from December 22 to January 5 as a precautionary measure because of the new coronavirus variant spreading in Britain. At a press conference, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) commissioner I S Chahal said, “Essential services like vegetable and milk supply will remain open during the night curfew. Night curfew is not a lockdown. There is a difference between a night curfew and a lockdown. In a lockdown, individuals cannot step out of their homes.
But during Night Curfew more than five people can not assemble at a place during the curfew.”
In Mumbai there will be strict restrictions during New Year and Christmas. To control the spread of the virus, the Maharashtra government has said that all passengers landing in Maharashtra from Europe or other West Asian countries, will have to go to 14-Day institutional quarantine. The BMC also announced that there will be a 15% water cut from 10:00am on 22nd December to 10:00am 23rd December in areas of Ghatkopar and Sakinaka. The BMC has appealed to people to use water sparingly. The water cut is because of repairs being done in Ghatkopar and Thane.
