Between 2022 and 2024, Nitish Kumar took the lead in forming an alliance of the opposition parties to unitedly fight the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In June 2023, he even hosted the first meeting of the opposition parties before it even adopted I.N.D.I.A. in its name. Nitish Kumar explained the reason for his resignation from INDIA Bloc. He said that things in the INDIA bloc have not been working out for him due to failed seat-sharing talks. Nitish Kumar’s party JD(U) also alleged Congress for insulting Nitish Kumar time and again. Both RJD & India bloc members have expressed their disappointment on Nitish Kumar’s latest switch of parties to remain the Chief Minister of Bihar. Former Deputy Chief Minister, RJD leader Tejaswi Yadav said that 2024 marks the end of the JD(U) and the game in Bihar is far from being over. Akhilesh Yadav said that Nitish Kumar made a new record of betrayal and the BJP is at its weakest now. The Congress said it was aware of what was cooking in Bihar but did not comment on it before in the interest of the INDIA bloc. According to the reports, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge himself had tried to contact Nitish Kumar but was unsuccessful. Defending the insult allegation, Congress also said that if Nitish Kumar wanted to stay, he would have; but he wanted to join the BJP led NDA. Along with Nitish Kumar, BJP's Samrat Choudhury & Vijay Sinha also took the oath as Deputy CMs. Apart from these BJP members, the President of Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), Dr Santosh Kumar Suman also took oath to be a part of the new government under Nitish Kumar.
Referring to his party's alliance with BJP led NDA, Nitish Kumar said, “We will stay together. Eight leaders took oath as ministers today and the rest will be inducted soon. PM Modi, who had earlier condemned Nitish Kumar’s derogatory parliamentary statement on ‘women’s role in population control’ also congratulated him.
PM Modi wrote on X (Twitter) “The NDA government formed in Bihar will leave no stone unturned for the development of the state and to fulfill the aspirations of its people. I congratulate Nitish Kumar as Chief Minister, and Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Sinha ji on taking oath as Deputy Chief Ministers.”
