Since there is a big increase in the Covid-19 cases in the country, Holi 2021 will be a muted affair as the Central Government has already asked states and UTs to take adequate measures to arrest the surge of daily cases ahead of the festive season.
In Mumbai on 28th & 29th March, The BMC has also banned Holi celebrations, parties or gatherings in public places, hotels and resorts. In Delhi, public celebrations for upcoming festivals such as Holi, Navratri and gatherings in general, will not be allowed. Even Chandigarh has ordered a ban on festivities relating to Holi.
In Bihar, there is no official ban, but Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has recently urged people to avoid congregating in large numbers on the occasion of Holi. Uttar Pradesh issued a detailed order on Holi celebrations asking senior citizens and vulnerable groups to stay away from celebrations and said no processions or gatherings will be allowed without prior administrative permission. The Gujarat government has said it will not permit any Holi celebrations in the state but will allow Holika Dahan with crowd restrictions.
In Odisha, No religious, cultural congregations will be allowed on the occasion of Holi in the state. People may celebrate Holi in their houses, and temples can go about their rituals adhering to Covid protocols. To control the spread of COVID-19, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar announced on 23rd March, that the COVID vaccines will now be given to everyone above the age of 45 even if they have no comorbidities. Javadekar urged all those eligible to immediately get themselves registered and vaccinated.
