Odisha CM Gives Rs 60 Lakh to Feed Stray Animals
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has sanctioned an amount of Rs 60 lakh to enable local bodies to feed stray animals during the Covid-19 lockdown.
Like several parts of the country, Odisha has also put strict rules to control the spread of the virus. Odisha Public Information Department, had recently put out a tweet. In the tweet they said that animals such as stray dogs and cattle are facing a food shortage since people are not able to leave their homes because of the lockdown. The Odisha government decided to make arrangements to help stray animals. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has given Rs 60 lakh from the Chief Minister Relief Fund (CMRF) to feed stray animals in parts of Odisha where there is a lockdown. This will now be done through volunteers and voluntary organisations.
The amount sanctioned by CM Naveen Patnaik will allow Bhubaneshwar, Cuttack, Sambalpur, Rourkela and Berhampur metropolitan corporations to spend Rs 20,000 a day for this purpose. Similarly, the municipalities have been permitted to spend Rs 5,000 a day and Notified Area Councils (NACs) Rs 2,000 a day on feeding stray animals.
