Ola joined with Mahindra in 2017 to create a pilot program in Nagpur for four-wheelers which run on electricity. After a while they realised that the program was not ready for the public. This is why they have decided to move towards Motorcycles and Autorickshaws that will run on electricity. Ola has announced that they will be slowing down adoption of electric cars and will put more effort into E-Motorcycles and E-Rickshaws.
Ola plans to have 10,000 Electric Vehicles(EVs) by the end of March of 2020. The program co-founder Anand Shah said: “Right now E-Rickshaws are the largest population of EVs in India” Ola has started programs in Gurugram with a hundred E-Rickshaw. Mahindra already has an electric e-Rickshaw called the “Treo” and they may work together in the future. The company expects to deploy the 10,000 E-Rickshaws by the end of March 2020 and are willing to work with many different cities in states like, Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Kerala.
Mr. Shah said: “ We have raised Rs 400 cores from investors . This money will be spent on meeting these milestones and getting the technology right and growing from there.”
