Phase 3 of Lok Sabha Election Polls
With the completion of the third phase of the Lok Sabha Elections, polling for 302 out of 543 Lok Sabha seats are now complete.
The third phase of the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections were held in 15 states, Daman & Diu, Dadra & Nagar Haveli.This phase of the election, was for 117 Lok Sabha seats. Now the elections for 302/543 Lok Sabha seats are over. The well known candidates in this phase were BJP president Amit Shah from Gandhinagar; Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, who is contesting from Kerala’s Wayanad; Congress leaders Shashi Tharoor and Mallikarjun Kharge; BJP’s Alphons Kannanthanam; And Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav.
The elections were held peacefully in most of the states, except for a few minor incidents.
The total percentage of people who came to vote in the third phase of the elections, was 67% compared to 69.3% in the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections. The highest voter turnout was recorded in Tripura and Assam which was 81.6% and 80.8% respectfully. In Assam 800 voters boycotted the elections due to problems over the application of government schemes.
Anantnag district in J&K recorded the voter percentage. It was just 12.9%. In the 2014 elections, it was 39.37%. In Anantnag a vehicle transporting the polling staff met with an accident by falling into a gorge. One policeman died and 5 were injured. In Murshidabad, West Bengal, a man who was a congress activist was killed outside a polling booth. Congress have blamed the Trinamool Congress, but they have denied the charges. At a polling booth in Kovalam in Thiruvananthapuram, voters complained of a jammed EVM button. 76 votes had already been placed their votes on this EVM. After investigation, they found that the button allotted to the Congress candidate was jammed. The machine was immediately replaced.
PM Modi cast his vote at a polling booth in Ahmedabad. The Congress accused him of conducting a “road show” and making political remarks after placing his vote. The EC has asked the Ahmedabad district election officer to conduct an inquiry. 22 states and union territories have now finished voting. 8 more states are yet to votes.
