Phase 5 Elections of Lok Sabha Polls
The 5th phase of the Lok Sabha elections saw an estimated voter turnout of 63.5%. This has been the lowest voter turnout soo far.
The highest voter turnout this election was 69.50% in phase 1. Phase 2, was 69.44%.
The turnout was 68.40 % in phase three, and 65.51% in phase 4.
According to the Android application of the Election Commission (EC), the voter turnout was 63.5% for the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha Elections 2019. This has been the lowest turnout in all phases so far.
The voter turnout has been on a decreasing path so far, in this election.
Sandeep Saxena, a Senior Deputy Election Commissioner said that as compared to 2014, 7.85 crore additional people were eligible to cast their vote.
The following are the voter turnout for different states in the phase 5 elections.
Madhya Pradesh - 62.60%
Jharkhand - 63.72%
West Bengal - 73.97%
Bihar - 57.86%
Uttar Pradesh - 57.33%
Rajasthan - 63.75%
Jammu & Kashmir - 2.81%
The constituency of Anantnag in Jammu & Kashmir went for elections in Phase 3, 4 and 5. The overall voter turnout here was 8.76% this year as compared to 28.54% in 2014 elections.
The Ladakh constituency went to polls on 6th May. It recorded a turnout of 71.10% at 10 PM as per the EC app. In 2014, the turnout was nearly the same at 71.9%
A total of 51 constituencies in seven states voted on 6th May. In this phase, the least number of states were involved.
More than 8.75 crore voters will decide the fate of 674 candidates, including top leaders like Congress president Rahul Gandhi, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh, in this phase.
The Election Commission set up more than 96,000 polling booths.
28,072 polling booths were set up in Uttar Pradesh itself, to ensure smooth voting.
With reference to the violence and disturbance during the elections, a petrol bomb was thrown in Shopian, in Jammu and Kashmir. This comes under the Srinagar parliamentary constituency. No injuries were reported.
Suspected militants hurled a grenade at a polling station in another locality of the Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir.There was a grenade attack at a polling booth in Cahapora in Pulwama.
There were cases reported, where candidates standing for the election too, were attacked.
