People had mixed feelings about the idea of replacing Gandhi's image with some others, where some believed it to be a good decision some other believed it to be of no use. However, the RBI has stated that currently it said that there is no such plan or proposal to make any changes in the existing currency and bank notes by replacing the image of Mahatma Gandhi with that of others.
The RBI said that the news which went viral on social media and news portals are just rumors and no such change is likely to happen anytime soon. Now that we know Gandhiji will remain on all our notes, let me give some interesting facts. The RBI first released one rupee note with Gandhi's photo on it to celebrate the hundredth birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in 1969. Later In the year 1987, ?500 notes were introduced with Gandhi's picture on it. Moreover, in 1996, all the notes which were issued by then were replaced by notes with Gandhi’s Ji’s picture on the new notes.
