PM Modi Announces New Positions in Cabinet

PM Modi has handed out all the positions in his new government, with some surprises, and some staying where they were and a few being moved around.

A day after the swearing-in ceremony held in New Delhi, PM Modi announced all the positions in his new cabinet. All the speculation was on what role Amit Shah would be given. Many thought it would be either Home or Finance MInister, in the end it was announced that Mr. Shah would be taking over from Rajnath SIngh as the new Home MInister .

Nirmala Sithataman was the first woman to be a full-time defense minister. Now she has been given the positions of Finance Minister where she will again be the first full-time women to hold this position.

One of the big surprises was the choice of S Jaishankar to join the cabinet as the Minister of External Affairs. This position was held by Sushma Swaraj. He has had many successful diplomatic missions with UAE and Saudi Arabia and his ideas are in sync with the PM.

Smriti Irani who beat out Rahul Gandhi, was given the Textiles Ministry and additional duties as Minister of Women and Child Development, where she will have several tasks  such as fixing the Anganwadi Programme and making sure the Integrated Child Development Services scheme works well.

Piyush Goual will be keeping his place as the Railway Minister but has also been given a portfolio in commerce and industry, where he will have the difficult job of dealing with trade negotiations with other countries like the US. Former Uttarakhand CM, Ramesh Pokhriya is the new Human Resource Development MInister and Arunachal Pradesh leader Kiren Rijiu has been made MInister Of Youth Affairs and Sports.
