PM Modi Gets First Dose of COVID Vaccine

India began the 1st Phase of its vaccination drive on 16th January. The aim was to vaccinate 3 crore frontline workers. But there were many who were hesitant to take the vaccine. Till now 1.43 people have been vaccinated. From today 1st march, India will start the 2nd phase and give coronavirus vaccines to people over 60 and those over 45 who have illnesses. The government hopes to vaccinate 30 crore people by August in this second phase. Registrations are set to open at 9 am at www.cowin.gov.in and the Aarogya Setu app and there will be walk-in vaccinations in some places as well. All vaccines provided to beneficiaries at the government health facilities will be entirely free of cost, while private facilities will charge a sum of ?250 per person per dose
India is hoping that by giving vaccines it can control the growing number of more infectious virus strains and a spurt in cases in some states. Prime Minister Narendra Modi today tweeted to say that he took the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine at Delhi's All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). PM Modi was administered home-grown Covaxin, developed by Bharat Biotech. In the tweet he said, "Remarkable how our doctors and scientists have worked in quick time to strengthen the global fight against COVID-19," PM Modi even tweeted an image of himself taking the first dose of the vaccine. He also appealed to all those who are eligible to take the vaccine. He said, "Together, let us make India COVID-19 free,"
