PM Modi Inaugurates Vishwa Navkar Mahamantra Divas

Millions across 108 countries will unite on April 9 to chant the Navkar Mahamantra for global peace, led by JITO and supported by PM Modi at Vigyan Bhavan.

On April 9, 2025, millions of people across the world will come together to chant the Navkar Mahamantra — a powerful Jain prayer for peace, compassion, and unity.

The main event will take place at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will give a special speech highlighting the importance of the mantra in promoting world peace.

This global event is being led by the Jain International Trade Organization (JITO). It is expected to happen at 6,000 places in India and in 108 countries. Over 1 crore and 8 lakh people are expected to take part.

Many local programmes will also take place — including group chanting, seminars on Jain philosophy, and community service activities — all meant to spread the message of non-violence and harmony.

This day is celebrated just one day before Mahavir Jayanti (10 April), which marks the birth of Lord Mahavir, the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism.

Why April 9?

In Indian tradition, the number 9 stands for completeness and new beginnings. It is believed to hold a strong spiritual power. That is why April 9 has been chosen for this special day.

What is the Navkar Mahamantra?

The Navkar Mahamantra (also called Namokar Mantra) is the most sacred prayer in Jainism. It is not for asking for anything, but is a way of respecting five holy beings:

Arihantas – Those who have destroyed all bad karmas

Siddhas – Liberated souls, free from birth and death

Acharyas – Spiritual leaders of the Jain community

Upadhyayas – Teachers of Jain scriptures

Sadhus and Sadhvis – Monks and nuns who live simple, spiritual lives

The goal of Navkar Mahamantra Divas is to spread the Jain values of non-violence, compassion, and self-awareness, and to encourage peace in the world through this powerful prayer.

This is a historic moment for the Jain community and for people around the world who believe in living with kindness and peace.
