PM Modi Launches Indian Sign Language Dictionary

PM Narendra Modi has launched an Indian Sign Language dictionary that consists of 10,000 words. The basic aim is to aid communication between hearing and Deaf individuals,

Shikshak Parv 2021 is being celebrated from 5 September to 17 September 2021. The Shiksha Parv is being celebrated by the Ministry of Education. It is being celebrated to honour the contribution of teachers, learning during pandemics, and new initiatives under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. On 7th September, PM Modi gave a speech to students, teachers, and all those involved in education. 

The PM also launched 5 new initiatives. 

  1. Modi launched the ISL dictionary containing signs of 10,000 words. Isn’t that amazing! The dictionary has been created by the Indian Sign Language Research and Training Centre (ISLRTC). The basic aim of the ISL dictionary is to remove communication barriers between the deaf and hearing communities. The dictionary contains signs of everyday use and their corresponding English and Hindi words. Specialised terms from legal, academic, medical, and technical fields too are explained in ISL dictionary. 

  2.  ‘Talking Books’ which are audio books for the blind.  

  3. He also launched the School Quality Assessment and Accreditation Framework (SQAAF) of CBSE. A Marking system for CBSE students.  

  4. He launched ‘NISHTHA’ a teachers' training programme. 

  5.  He also launched the ‘Vidyanjali Portal’. It is a website on which any Indian citizen can offer to volunteer in schools for teaching, they can make donations.
