After the separation of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, PM Modi spoke to the country for the first time. He gave a 40 min speech. Let me give you the highlights. PM Modi promised that, once J&K develops, J&K will become a state again. For many years J&K face a lot of problems. Due to terrorism, the state never progressed. The entire country was progressing but J&K was still behind. There are 1.5 crore people in J&K. These people did not benefit from strong laws & rights for people of India. Children did not have Right to Education (RTE). The Girl child did not have rights in J&K. Dalits and Minorities (SC,ST,OBC,etc.) did not have laws to empower and protect them. The decision to convert J&K into a UT was not taken quickly. For a long time the government thought and discussed it. The made the decision because the Central Government’s felt the people deserve better and a direct rule will make progress very fast.
Article 370 was used by Pakistan to make the people of J&K against India. The Law only increased terrorism, separatism and corruption. Pakistan used this law to send terrorist groups in India and spread hate among the people. Because of this more than 42,000 people died. This was not fair. Now in J&K Article 370 has been thrown in the dustbin forever and J&K has a bright future. He said that he hopes the people of J&K will now be happy and be a part of India. Now it is like a new life for them. PM Modi said that J&K will fair and transparent elections. The people will be able to choose their own MLAs and CMs for themselves.
Modi said that the people who were working in the State Government and the police will get many benefits. They will get Leave Travel Concession (LTC), House rent allowance, education allowance for their children, health insurance, etc. All the benefits will be the same as the benefits in other UTs. For years due to politics, the youth could not develop. He requested the youth to work hard for J&K’s development. If there is peace, then more people will go to visit J&K. He requested the film industry and Companies to to include J&K in any new projects so the people benefit and business increases. Now that Ladakh has become a UT the govt is focused on making sure the area develops. They will start development projects such as [Box 06 roads, railways, airports etc. for the development of the region.
He said that many people were not happy with the government’s decision. But they have to understand that this best for the people and their future. He understands that people have different opinions. But he wants India to be united and focus on development. PM Modi said that situation soon go back to normal in J&K and all the problems will go away. He said since the festival of Eid is near, he is wishing them Happy Eid. The government will make sure J&K celebrates Eid peacefully and with happiness.
