PM Narendra Modi Attends Guru Tegh Bahadur’s 400th Parkash Purab On April 21.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended Sikh Guru Tegh Bahadur's 400th Parkash Purab on April 21 at Red Fort in Delhi. Guru Tegh Bahadur was the ninth Sikh Guru, reigning from 1 April 1621 till 11 November 1675. He was born in Punjab’s Amritsar. Guru Tegh Bahadur is regarded as a brave and principled warrior. He was a renowned spiritual scholar and poet whose 115 songs are included in Sikhism's principal holy book, Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Officials of the Ministry of Culture said that the Red Fort has been chosen as the venue for the 400th birth anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur because it was here in 1675 that the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb ordered the execution of Guru Tegh Bahadur. Images of Modi at the event went viral on social media. At the event Modi also addressed the nation from the Red Fort. Modi said that, ‘Celebrating the Guru’s birthday is a national duty. India has never posed a threat to any country or society. We think for the welfare of the entire world even today amid global conflicts. India is following the ideals of Sikh gurus.”
With his speech, PM Modi has scripted history as he has become the only Prime Minister of India who addressed the nation from the Red Fort after sunset. As many as 400 'ragis' performed a 'Shabad Kirtan' to mark this auspicious occasion. A Shabad Kirtan refers to the musical recitation of the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of Sikhism tradition. A langar was also held. The Prime Minister also released a postage stamp and a coin to commemorate the occasion. A museum has also been built at the Red Fort so that people can get information about Guru Tegh Bahadur.
