PM Modi Inaugurates the Smriti Van Memorial & Atal Bridge
PM Modi, on Sunday 28th of August, inaugurated the 'Smriti Van' memorial and launched projects worth Rs 4,400 crore in Gujarat
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on 28th of August, inaugurated the ‘Smriti Van' memorial and launched projects worth Rs 4,400 crore at Bhuj in Gujarat's Kutch district during the 2 day visit to his home state. The PM will also lead a 3km-long roadshow in Bhuj while on his way to the Smriti Van. The Smriti Van memorial has been built over nearly 470 acres to celebrate the spirit of recovery following the death of 13,000 people during the 2001 earthquake which had its epicentre in Bhuj. The memorial carries the names of the people who lost their lives during the earthquake. It also has a state-of-the-art Smriti Van Earthquake Museum.The museum showcases Gujarat's topography (natural and man made structures), rebuilding projects and success stories after the 2001 earthquake, and informs about different kinds of disasters and future readiness for any type of disaster. It also has a block to relive the experience of an earthquake with the help of a 5D simulator.
PM Modi has also inaugurated a Kutch branch canal of the Sardar Sarovar Project to provide irrigation and drinking water in 948 villages. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the pedestrian-only “Atal Bridge'' on Sabarmati river in Gujarat's Ahmedabad city. It is built by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. This iconic bridge, having an eye-catching design and LED lighting, is nearly 300 metres long and 14 metres wide in the middle and connects the flower garden and the upcoming arts and culture centre.
The Prime Minister later addressed a programme marking the celebration of 40 years of Suzuki in India. There he laid the foundation stones of Suzuki Motor’ manufacturing facilities. All these developments in the state come right before the Gujarat elections.
