Press conferences can often get uncomfortable for politicians if they are asked tough questions by journalists.
Whenever interpreters are interpreting all this, they continue signing without any issues. However, in Australia, it was a sign language interpreter who had a tough day during a press conference. As Queensland Deputy Premier Steven Miles held a press conference in Brisbane on Wednesday. The event was suddenly disturbed when an owl pooped on the Sign Language AUSLAN interpreter Mike Webb’s forehead and suit.
Mike felt very awkward when this happened and the entire thing was caught live on camera. When this happened he said, “Oh, sh*t,” He took off his jacket, while someone rushed to get him some tissues to clean the mess. “Oh, sh*t,” he was heard saying after realizing that the bird had relieved itself right on top of his forehead. He took off his jacket, while someone rushed to get him some tissues to clean the mess.
Although the event would have left many not understanding anything, Webb, being a professional, quickly resumed his duty without his blue jacket. The incident led to thousands of comments on social media, with many, praising the interpreter for handling the situation professionally. Even the Queensland Police joined in on the fun saying, “Can confirm police have launched an investigation into this fly by hooting”. As the video and photos went viral, people couldn’t let go of this toilet humour, while at the same time, appreciating Webb’s professionalism. While some argued saying “it’s good luck”.
