Prince Philip, Husband Of Queen Elizabeth II, Dies At 99

Prince Philip, the longest serving royal consort in British history and a constant presence at Queen Elizabeth II's side for decades, died on 9th April aged 99.

Prince Philip and husband of Queen Elizabeth II, has died aged 99. The couple had been living in isolation at Windsor Castle, west of London, because their advanced age put them at risk from Covid-19. His death came just months before his 100th birthday in June. Philip was no stranger to health issues. He had a blocked artery in his heart and doctors had put a stent in it. He also had a hip operation in 2018. In 2019, he met with a car accident that injured two people but he was completely unharmed. Since the pandemic, Philip has made few public appearances. He was admitted to hospital on February 16, 2021, and went home after a month during which he was treated for a pre-existing heart condition and an infection. 

Prince Philip was born on the island of Corfu in Greece. His uncle was the King of Greece. When he was just 18 months old, the King was forced to abdicate the throne and this is why Prince Philip’s full family had to run away from Greece. The family initially settled in France. Philip was formally introduced to princess Elizabeth, the future queen, in July 1939 and they kept in touch during World War 1 and met on a number of occasions.  The pair married in London in 1947. Usually the spouses of the Kings and Queens of the UK would die or they would not stay married for long but Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip have been the longest married royal couple in British history. They had celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary in November 2020. Queen Elizabeth II became queen in 1952. That time Prince Phillip had a very high post in the Royal Air Force but when Queen Elizabeth ascended the throne, he kept his personal ambitions aside to support her. 

Philip and the queen have four children -- Charles, Anne, Andrew and Edward -- eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Queen Elizabeth always said that Prince Philip was her strength. He was very famous for his sense of humour which sometimes people found offensive. Queen Elizabeth always said that he was her strength. People in the UK are very sorry over the death of Prince Philip. People were leaving flowers at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle.
