On 25th March 2023, former Congress MP Rahul Gandhi held his first press conference after being disqualified from his Lok Sabha membership. When asked whether he would apologize for his 2019 remark, Rahul Gandhi replied arrogantly, “I am Gandhi and not Savarkar, and Gandhis do not apologize.” Veer Savarkar was a highly regarded freedom fighter and his insult has directly hurt the sentiments and offended the people of Maharashtra. Veer Savarkar had faced a lot of hardships, trouble and cruelty when was put into the Andaman Jail by the British Authorities. But, a lot of people across the country believe that when he was tortured, he gave up and wrote mercy petitions to the British and so, he was released. After Rahul Gandhi’s unnecessary attack on Veer Savarkar, Savarkar’s grandson threatened Rahul Gandhi with a lawsuit if he doesn’t apologize for his comments on Savarkar. He was very annoyed by the allegations put on his grandfather and asked to show him the proof of Savarkar asking for mercy from the British. Anyways, after this, news went viral on various social media sites that Rahul Gandhi has deleted all his tweets about Veer Savarkar. However, when certain sources checked stats on SocialBlade which is a website that stores data for famous celebrity accounts– we found out that Rahul Gandhi has not deleted any tweets in the last two days. Also, the total number of tweets for his account has not changed. According to the website, Rahul Gandhi has not tweeted anything about Savarkar. He may have verbally insulted him but he has never tweeted anything.
Rahul Gandhi has also changed his twitter bio mentioning that he has been disqualified from the Parliament.
His bio reads ‘Dis'Qualified' MP.’’ Congress workers have held protests in different parts of the country.
