Rajasthan: Doctor Commits Suicide After Pregnant Woman Dies
A woman gynecologist, booked for allegedly causing the death of a pregnant woman at a private facility in Rajasthan's Dausa district, died by suicide.
On Tuesday in Rajasthan's Dausa district a woman died during child birth. The hospital was run by Dr Archana Sharma and her husband Dr Suneet Upadhyay. The woman’s family created a ruckus in the hospital and blamed Dr Archana Sharma for the death of the woman. An FIR was also registered against the doctor and her husband over medical negligence. The patient's family demanded that the husband-wife should be booked under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. They also demanded revocation of the hospital's license. Dr Archana Sharma then hung herself inside a room of the hospital. She left a suicide not which said, "I didn't do anything wrong. I didn't kill anyone. Stop harassing doctors for PPH, which is a known complication. Maybe my death would prove my innocence. I have not committed any mistake. I love my husband and kids very much. Please don’t harass them after my death. Stop harassing doctors' ' Postpartum hemorrhage is when a woman has heavy bleeding after giving birth. It's a serious but rare condition.
The private hospitals in Jaipur and Dausa remained closed in protest against the incident. Saddened by the incident, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot assured a serious investigation into the case. In a letter to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, the resident doctors union - Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) has sought a proper investigation into the matter, as well as immediate withdrawal of the FIR, filed against the doctor.
