Red Fort Blast: Chilling Video of Dr Nabi
Investigators have found a video of Umar un-Nabi, the Delhi blast accused, where he justifies his planned attack. It was found on a phone he gave his brother to hide before the explosion
Investigators looking into the Red Fort car explosion have recovered a video of Dr Umar Mohammad, also known as Umar un-Nabi, who drove the white Hyundai i20 used in the 10th November attack. The video is described as chilling, as Nabi is seen justifying his act of terror in his own words. Officials believe the clip was recorded at least a week, or possibly even earlier, before he detonated the explosives-laden car near the Red Fort.
According to sources, Nabi gave the phone containing this video to his brother at their home in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir. He told him to dispose of it if he “ever heard news” about him. Around a week before the attack, Nabi visited his family home and handed over one of his two phones before leaving for Faridabad, where he worked at Al Falah University.
On 7th November, Nabi’s colleague Dr Adeel Ahmed Rather was arrested for putting up JeM-linked posters. On 9th November, Dr Muzammil Shakeel was arrested in connection with an explosives haul. Nabi’s brother also learned that Dr Shaheen Saeed had been detained. Realising police were searching for Nabi, he panicked and threw the phone into a pond.
When investigators traced Nabi’s phones, both were switched off. After questioning the family, the phone was recovered from the pond, though it had water damage. Officials managed to extract the video days later. In the clip, Nabi talks about “martyrdom missions” and tells viewers not to fear death. Psychologists say he appeared confident and fully convinced about his actions. The video is believed to have been filmed in room number 13 of building number 17 at Al Falah University.
