In Delhi the number of credit scams are increasing day by day. This is because the staff at restaurants, petrol pumps, shopping malls and movie theatres are part of a gang that steal credit card information by using a machine called a “Skimmer”.Details such as the pin number, credit card number, CVV number are stolen by the machine.
When customers hand over their credit card to make payments, the staff use the “Skimmer” machine to steal all the card details of the customer. Sometimes they even note down the pin number entered by the customers. These people are paid to pass on such information to another gang, which uses the card information for online shopping or for transferring money.
Last week an employee of a bar in Connaught Place Delhi was arrested for stealing Credit Card information of 7 people and cheating them of Rs 12,00,000. The Delhi Police have said that the number of Credit card fraud has increased. Almost 70 cases are registered every month. This also due to the easy availability of Skimmer machines online. They are extremely cheap and can be purchases of Rs 15,000-Rs 30,000.
The police have told people to be careful when they give their credit cards to make payments. They have warned people to be careful while typing their PIN password.
