The Regional Transport Office or the RTOs, will now keep a watch on the vehicle insurance of the citizens of Mumbai. The RTO will check the person’s record. If the person has not gotten into an accident and or has not broken any traffic laws in the last five years, the RTO will tell the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority, to charge a low Insurance premium amount.
If the person has a bad record of multiple traffic law violations and many accidents, the RTO will recommend a high insurance premium amount. State transport commissioner Shekhar Channe said that the RTO will have access to all the vehicle Insurance details.
They will also be able to know if a vehicle has paid the compulsory insurance premium or not. If they find a vehicle has not been insured, the RTO will impound it and return it only when the person has paid the Insurance premium. The RTO wants to make sure the citizens follow all the traffic rules and regulations.
