Sachin Tendulkar Demands Another Super Over
Sachin Tendulkar and the Indian cricket community is not happy with the ICC World Cups rules and have demanded a change.
At the World Cup Final at Lord's on Sunday, the super over ended in a tie. England then won the World Cup as they had more fours and sixes. Current and old cricketers including Rohit Sharma, Gautam Gambhir and Yuvraj Singh, have said that they do not agree with the rule of counting fours and sixes that decide the winner. Sachin Tendulkar on Tuesday said that even he was not happy with this rule.
He said that a second super over must decide the winner instead of considering the boundary count if such a situation arises like it did in the World Cup final. After table-toppers India were knocked out of the World Cup after losing the semi-final to New Zealand, Captain Virat Kohli had suggested IPL-like playoffs instead of knockouts in the World Cup going forward.
When asked if the World Cup format needs to be changed Tendulkar said: "I think the two teams that finish at the top should definitely have something going for them for having played consistently through the tournament."
During India's semifinal, former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was sent at number seven. Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik were sent at number 5 and 6. When they asked his opinion Tendulkar said: Without a doubt, I would've sent MS Dhoni at his usual position, No.5.He said that India was in a very bad situation during the semi-finals. Dhoni’s experience would have helped score more runs. Hardik could've batted at 6 and Karthik would've followed at 7. From August 3 to September 3, India will go to West Indies for a tour. This will include 3 T20 International match, 3 one-day international and 2 Test matches.
