A similar incident has taken place with the master blaster cricketer - Sachin Tendulkar. On 12th May 2023, Sachin Tendulkar and his Personal Assistant (PA) lodged a police complaint at the Mumbai Crime Branch against unidentified persons for fake advertisements using his name, photo and voice without his consent. Tendulkar’s personal assistant found two websites in the name of Tendulkar which were selling herbal products for those who have body, skin, hair, pain or health problems. The scamsters on their page stated, “Sachin Health was made with love for people in India who end up facing some body, skin, and hair problems. With utmost care, we make sure that you are getting full value for your money with our unique health-related products.”
Tendulkar’s PA’s complaint stated, “I came across these 2 website links (sachinhealth.in and shylahealth.in) advertised in the name of Sachin recommending a belly burner oil. The product link on social media was published by the user ID‘Naveen’. The advertisement also mentioned that one can get a free T-shirt signed by Tendulkar on ordering the fat melting spray worth Rs899. The products are sold on two websites created in his name with his photographs being used, which is misleading and illegally used to disrepute his image.” As Tendulkar had never given permission to the company to use his name and photographs and it was leading to damage to his image. Based on a complaint by Sachin, Mumbai police registered an FIR and have started an investigation. Sachin had also released a statement through Sachin Tendulkar Foundation’s SRT10 Sports Team
The statement stated, “ They have noticed that there have been many attempts to copy Sachin’s features and that too without consent. The website was selling products and services that were not related to Sachin at all. Because of this innocent citizens bought the products. We have lodged an official complaint and have highlighted these to social media platforms where such misleading advertisements are being broadcast. A list of partners that Mr. Sachin Tendulkar associates’ with can be found at https://sachintendulkar.com. We urge citizens to report the misleading advertisements if they come across such and be alert and not get scammed online.” Finally, Sachin says, “Let’s be active in creating a safer online environment.”
