Samajwadi Party Supremo Mulayam Yadav Passes Away at 82
Samajwadi party founder and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav passed away today at the age of 82-years.
Mulayam Singh Yadav was the leader of Samajwadi Party. One of the biggest political parties in North India. He was a very strong and famous leader. Last week suddenly his health started getting bad after which he was shifted to the ICU at Medanta Hospital. This morning in a tweet, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav announced the passing away of Mulayam Singh Yadav. Many leaders visited Mulayam Singh in the hospital in his final days. UP Chief Minister Yogi Aditanath said he felt deep sorrow and announced three-day state mourning in the state. Soon after his death, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condoled the event with a post shared on his twitter account. However, his passing away is an extremely sad event not just for the Samajwadi Party but for the whole Indian politics. Here are some interesting facts about the leader.
Mulayam Singh Yadav was born on 22nd November 1939 in Saifai village of Etawah District of Uttar Pradesh. He was born to a farming family of Murti Devi and Sughar Singh Yadav. Before joining politics, Mulayam Singh Yadav completed his post graduation (MA) in Political Science from Agra University. He resigned from his job while getting active in politics. Mulayam Singh started his political career as an MLA in Uttar Pradesh. Within a very short time, the influence of Mulayam Singh was visible in the whole of Uttar Pradesh. Mulayam Singh did important work in raising the social level of the Other Backward Classes (OBC) society in Uttar Pradesh. Mulayam Singh was elected MLA for the first time in 1967 and became a minister in the state government. In 1992, he formed the Samajwadi Party. He was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for three terms from 5 December 1989 to 24 January 1991, from 5 December 1993 to 3 June 1996 and from 29 August 2003 to 11 May 2007.
Apart from this, he was also the Defense Minister in the Central Government in 1996. Now, even though his position in the party was succeeded to his son, Akhilesh Yadav, Mulayam Yadav still held the same strength in the party. His death has come as a big blow to many.
