Sanitary Napkins Given to Boys in Bihar

Boys in Bihar are being given sanitary pads. To know more, watch our latest video.

In Bihar when girls would get their periods, they would bunk school as they could not afford sanitary pads. Many times as the girls grew older, their parents would stop them from going to school because of this. This affected the girls' education. Sometimes girls would use cloth during their periods. Many times the cloth would be unsanitary and lead to infections causing health problems for the girls. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had announced the Mukhyamantri Kishori Swasthya Karyakram scheme in February 2015. Under this scheme, schoolgirls from class VIII to X are provided ? 150 each annually, to buy sanitary napkins for their personal use. The CM started the scheme to encourage girls to study so that they can achieve their goals and clean pads would help protect their health. Around ? 60 crores are annually spent for the purpose by the state government. Around 37 lakh girls students of government schools benefit from the scheme. However, shocking news has emerged from Halkori Sah High School in the Saran district of Bihar.

The Principal of the school noticed that the funds which were meant to be given to girls to buy pads were actually also given to boys! When the news reached Ajay Kumar Singh, District Education Officer, he was shocked. He has set up a committee and launched an investigation. They will submit a report soon. This is because the money to encourage girls to attend schools is now being wasted on boys.
