Schools to Reopen From July
The Indian government is planning to open schools and colleges from July with 30% attendance.
Schools have been closed since about 16th March. It has been more than 2 months that the schools are closed. Parents, teachers, school authorities everyone has one question, when will schools reopen? HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal was LIVE on Twitter on Thursday, May 14, to interact with teachers and answer their queries about education in Covid-19 lockdown. Pokhriyal had said, "If social distancing needs to be maintained in a classroom, and only 30% students will be able to come.” He had added, "The lives of teachers and students are more important right now.” 10 days after HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriya’ s live twitter chat, reports have come that the Central government is planning on reopening schools in a zone-wise manner.
The government is planning to reopen schools in the Green and Orange zones first. Also, it will only be for older students. Students of primary classes will need to wait till schools fully open. Very young kids cannot follow strict rules for their own safety so for their safety they will be kept at home. They will continue their studies from home. As per reports, the schools will open in the month of July with only 30% attendance and social distancing rules. The schools may have to be run in two shifts. The report said that the teachers would need to be trained to self follow the rules and help others follow. Also school assemblies will not be conducted.
Pokhriyal had also said that UGC was deciding on safety guidelines for reopening colleges and universities and NCERT was doing the same for schools. The guidelines would be different in all schools, colleges and universities. But for safety, teachers will have to wear masks and gloves, thermal scanners will be installed. Only two students will sit on three-seater desks. CCTVs will observe if social distancing rules are being followed or not.
